What is MLS Laser Therapy?

MLS Laser Therapy is a cutting-edge, non-invasive treatment designed to speed up healing, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain—without medication or surgery.

It uses synchronised, dual-wavelength laser energy to reach deep into tissues, stimulating your body’s natural repair processes at the cellular level.

  • Treatment times range from 5-20 minutes
  • Reducing the number of sessions required due to rapid healing effect
  • Patients report a marked reduction in pain, swelling and inflammation

MLS Laser Therapy FAQs

How does MLS Laser therapy work?2022-10-20T12:49:20+00:00

By directing the laser light energy directly into the inflamed or damaged tissues, your body’s natural healing process is accelerated. This direct contact enables light photons to penetrate the tissues and interact with molecules within the cells, this causes multiple biochemical effects including the permeability of the cell which allows for a sharp decrease in swelling, pain and inflammation that our clients experience.

High powered photons react with the chromophores in the mitochondria of the targeted cells to produce Adenosine TriPhosphate (ATP), the chemical energy required for healing and cell rejuvenation. In simple terms, MLS Laser therapy accelerates healing and restoration by turning the light energy from the laser into healing energy that your body harnesses.

How many sessions of MLS Laser therapy will I need?2022-10-20T12:49:19+00:00

After a full clinical assessment of your condition, SO Podiatry will make a tailor made treatment plan for you. The number of sessions in your plan will depend on your condition, but this will be discussed at your initial appointment.

We usually advise a course of treatment of 6 sessions, 2 per week for 3 weeks. However one-off sessions can be booked. Please see our price list for details.

Are the results long lasting?2022-10-20T12:49:19+00:00

Masking or covering up a condition doesn’t work, this is where MLS Laser therapy is different, Therapeutic Laser Therapy is all about healing. When you feel better, you are better. Many of our patients feel the results immediately and have gone on to report long lasting pain relief, especially when a full course of treatment is booked. This is because each treatment is cumulative and the best results are often felt after 2 to 4 sessions.

Treatments take no longer than 20 minutes but the therapeutic benefit continues to soothe and heal long after you leave the clinic.

Does MLS Laser therapy hurt?2022-10-20T12:49:19+00:00

During this quick therapy which usually lasts between 5-20 minutes, there is very little or no sensation. Some patients describe feeling a mild, soothing warm sensation. Often results can be felt during or very soon after the first treatment. For chronic conditions it may take a few treatments for you to feel the effects, but on a cellular level the benefits will be immediate.

For some people there can be a slight pain which can begin roughly 6-24 hours after a treatment session, this is due to the healing process beginning. All healing begins with inflammation. This type of pain is particularly likely to arise when the health problems are chronic in nature and the nerves are highly sensitised. It usually subsides after a few days but can, in rare cases, last longer.

What conditions can be treated with MLS Laser therapy?2022-10-20T12:49:19+00:00

At SO Podiatry we have seen success with a variety of conditions, including but not limited to; arthritis, knee pain, low back pain, hip pain, foot and ankle pain, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, skin conditions, and inflammatory conditions.

When you visit the clinic we will discuss the best plan of action relevant to your condition to get you back on your feet again.

What should I wear for my treatment?2022-10-20T12:49:19+00:00

As the laser needs to have direct skin contact it would be best to wear loose fitting clothing that can be rolled back or easily removed. Shorts are always a good idea. Don’t worry, your privacy will be respected throughout your treatment.

For your safety, both you and your therapist will wear safety goggles which will be sterilised after use.
