Verruca Removal

Verrucae removal using highly successful Swift technology.

Verrucae removal

Verruca can appear on the foot at any age and can be very painful, depending on where they are located. At SO Podiatry’s Worcester City Centre clinic we offer effective wart and verruca removal to help get you moving again.

Sometimes confused with plantar corns, verrucae can be present and last a few months to a few years, some can be present a lifetime. Warts or verrucae are a resistant virus that live in outer layers of the skin and can cause pain and discomfort. Unfortunately, many traditional methods of verruca treatment fail to resolve the lesion. You may have tried everything for Verruca Removal over the counter but still they have not disappeared.

Swift Microwave Therapy

Swift Therapy treatment is a new and state of the art technology, developed here in the UK, which is used for wart and verruca removal. It has a high success rate especially for treating stubborn warts and verrucas.

Swift uses microwave energy delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected verruca tissue. A probe contacts the lesion and the microwave energy travels into the skin, water molecules begin colliding and create a localised heat energy, quickly destroying all infected tissue to a predetermined depth. We deliver Swift microwave therapy as a package of up to 3 applications.

We also offer Verruca Needling

A more traditional treatment which is deemed to stimulate the body’s immune response creating a local inflammatory reaction so the body can ‘reject’ the virus. Verruca needling is a painless procedure carried out under local anaesthetic, the wart is ‘needled’ to stimulate the immune response. Minor bleeding will occur and a dressing is applied. A scab will form and you will attend 7 days after the procedure for a check-up. Resolution occurs from 12+ weeks after the procedure.

This is a highly successful minor surgical procedure and is still not widely available.

Verruca Removal FAQs

What is a Verruca?2024-01-03T11:51:13+00:00

Verruca or Verrucae are warts on the feet. They are a viral tissue that occupies the upper layers of your skin to form a cauliflower like structure. They are caused by the HPV virus/human papilloma virus.

How do I know if what I have is a verruca?2022-10-20T14:23:10+00:00

Verruca are not usually painful when you stand unless they are in a weight-bearing joint area. If you pinch it with your fingers it may hurt but if you press directly on them they tend not to. It is very common to see small black dots in the tissue and this is the small capillaries coming up through the viral tissue from the base layer. Veruca can look different on different areas of the feet. At So Podiatry we can help detect and identify what it is on your foot.

How can I get rid of my verruca?2022-10-20T14:23:49+00:00

A first line treatment for Verruca is to try over-the-counter remedies. The key is to be consistent with the treatment for up to 3 months. Verruca can be very stubborn. The earlier you treat your Veruca the more likely you are to have success.

It is essential that you definitely know that it is a Verruca that you are treating with these remedies if you are not sure please ask a professional podiatrist like SO Podiatry. Many health care providers often confuse Verruca and corns, these skin lesions are treated differently. If using an over-the-counter remedy it is important not exceed the dose that is in the instructions. Do not use these if you have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy is known to have reduced blood supply or neuropathy to the feet.

Does Swift Therapy hurt?2023-12-14T10:57:23+00:00

Like many treatments for skin lesions, some discomfort may be experienced. Before treatment we may decide to remove some of the hard skin over the verruca . Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing Swift liken it to a pain similar to an injection or a scratch, lasting 1 second then quickly subsiding.

What happens after Swift treatment?2023-12-14T10:56:25+00:00

In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.

How many treatments will I need?2023-12-14T10:57:48+00:00

This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. You may need more than one treatment (these can be from 14 days to over a month apart depending on the response). At your treatment we will be able to discuss this with you. Up to 60-70% respond within 3 treatments according to the latest research

Who can receive this treatment?2023-12-14T10:56:00+00:00

With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Your Podiatrist or Dermatologist will carry out an assessment prior to treatment and be able to advise you on this.

Is Swift Therapy safe?2023-12-14T10:55:34+00:00

Aside from the kitchen appliance, microwaves are used in a number of everyday applications. Standard wifi uses microwaves, mobile phones, bluetooth, and cordless phones all use microwaves to send data over short distances. Furthermore, most satellite communications systems (including GPS navigation systems) are also based on the use of microwaves – we interact with microwaves in more ways than we know, every day.

Testimonials

I used to suffer with incredible knee pain, it was a stabbing sensation that would stop me taking another step. It could be very painful, even at night so I took painkillers every morning and evening for it. Not any more. I just want to say thank you so much as can honestly say I haven’t had any pain in my knee since having MLS Laser treatment at SO Podiatry. I have since stopped taking all painkillers and I am using both legs as evenly as each other, it really is just amazing. At one point I thought I would need a knee replacement and now I’ve even thought about booking a cycling holiday.

Six months ago I visited So Podiatry and Steph was absolutely amazing in assessing my stance, posture, walking and running gait and then arranging for my custom orthotic insoles to be made by a leading UK supplier. She was informative, knowledgeable and communicative throughout, and I felt that the service was excellent value for money. The orthotics are amazingly comfortable and it took no time at all to get used to wearing them. I recently ran my first marathon, Steph’s advice, treatment and the custom made orthotics made all the difference.

Knowing how Stephanie had helped a friend to be able to continue her professional dancing career, I knew I was seeing the right person for my injury. My expectations were more than satisfied in just three weeks and I have been able to walk pain-free after two sessions, the third visit just a check up. The healing and comfort level in my foot continues. Initially fearing I might be virtually house-bound and hobbling to get anywhere, I am able to forget any injury and lead my usual busy life with great joy … and I mean it!! I think everyone should see you Steph!

Mrs A Suganami

My 13yr old son first saw Stephanie for a biomechanics appointment. He had frequent calf strains/pulls, and had been injured for 8 weeks. As well as prescribing some insoles, Stephanie recommended specific strengthening exercises. He is now back to playing football 4 times a week, stronger than ever!

Mrs N Parkin

I can certainly rate Stephanie. My painful verrucae have totally gone, It is such a relief to be able to be on my feet without any pain after all these years.

A A, Worcester

I found the service I got from Stephanie of SO Podiatry was excellent. She was very professional, knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely care about getting a good outcome. I would have no hesitation in recommending her and using her again.

S Gray, Worcester

My 11-year-old daughter had multiple warts on her hands and multiple verruca on her feet. She was embarrassed and had low confidence due to these embarrassing skin lesions. We had tried helping her with over-the-counter remedies and nothing made a difference. We had read about swift microwave therapy and its success rate, so we booked an appointment to speak with Steph at SO Podiatry to see if this treatment would be successful. Swift microwave therapy was the treatment of choice and after two sessions the Veruca and warts have totally gone. Our daughter is now back to her cheerleading and rock climbing activities which she loves, and we’re pleased to say she is now a much happier and more confident girl.

J. King, Worcester

I have seen Steph over the last nine months with a variety of foot ailments and found her to be very professional and approachable. However, most importantly, she has managed to cure my various problems – ingrowing toe nail, verrucae, biomechanics and corn under nail! I have no hesitation in recommending her.

Cliff

I’ve been coming to Steph for over a year now for toenail reconstruction and I can’t thank her enough for giving me my confidence back. My toenails have been damaged for years and I’ve always hidden my feet and felt self conscious about them but she’s made it possible for me to have them on show again and I’m so happy.

Miss C Parker

After two treatments by Stephanie it was gone! No sign of the verruca on my heel at all. Everybody asks does it hurt. Yes, it does for a very short time. Pay affects people in different ways, for me it was so worthwhile that if I had another verrucae, I would be straight in to see Stephanie. The Swift microwave therapy causes a very short burst of pain, which makes one jump, but is over in seconds. It is no worse than needling. As the treatment progresses the discomfort level decreases to the point where at the end, I could hardly feel it. It really is no big deal ad I would recommend SO Podiatry and the Swift microwave treatment to anyone.
