What is Prehab and why is it important?

We all know that movement is medicine and sometimes we need to be reminded as we can let exercise slip – or realise that we are sitting at our computer for 3-5 hours at a time and not realise we haven’t moved.

Sound familiar?

Being strong and moving well is key to preventing injury and often it’s only when we get injured that we think about our physical activity.

Prehab refers to proactive exercises and interventions

It is designed to prevent injuries before they occur. It focuses on strengthening specific areas, improving flexibility and addressing imbalances in the body to reduce the risk of injuries.

Prehab is important because it helps enhance overall physical readiness and resilience. By incorporating targeted exercises and practises into a routine, you can better prepare your body for the stresses and demands of specific activities. This proactive approach not only reduces the likelihood of injuries but also contributes to improved performance and long-term well-being.

What are the benefits of pre-habilitation?

Prehab involves exercises and lifestyle adjustments to prevent injuries and improve physical health.

It is useful for everyday life but also before a planned surgery or medical intervention.

Benefits may include enhanced postoperative recovery, reduced risk of complications during surgery and improved overall fitness.

It’s lots of fun and we have built a community of like-minded people who all have similar goals and desires. Ideally, you need to be physically active 30-60 mins per day, this can be walking and cycling but really to get physically strong you need to be doing resistance work with weights or bands.

Here at the practice the Pilates Studio we use reformer beds which have springs and pulleys that create the resistance.
