Sweaty feet can be embarrassing, smelly, and uncomfortable, and leave us predisposed to developing further foot problems such as athlete’s foot and very smelly feet. So why do our feet get so sweaty? We have over 125,000 sweat glands in our feet and daily they can produce around half a pint of sweat… wow!
How do we fix the problem?
1) Wearing a clean natural fibre sock daily such as bamboo or organic cotton. This allows the skin to breathe which helps ventilate the skin. Bamboo also has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, therefore, helping to reduce your chances of developing athlete’s foot and other foot infections when combined with other good routines.
2) Make sure the feet are fully dry after having a bath or shower, paying extra attention to the spaces between your toes. If you notice the skin between your toes becoming white and peeling, this is maceration which means the skin is too wet. Using surgical spirit on a cotton bud to wipe between each toe daily can help dry the skin out due to its astringent properties.
3) Use a foot antiperspirant, these can be bought over the counter in your local pharmacy- if you can’t see it on the shelf ask a member of staff.
4) Air your footwear. Changing your shoes or rotating your shoes can allow the innersoles to dry well and prevent bacteria and fungus from forming. With toe shoes, you can take the inner lining out and stand this up in the shoe so air flows through the shoe.
We hope this helps you keep your feet clean and healthy. Find out more information on Foot Health Awareness here! If you have any questions about your foot health, just get in touch.
